Since its inception, the teaching of Social Work, advocated by the Lisbon Institute of Social Work, has used ethnography as a method for the work carried out within the scope of the courses, which is why this collection contains an important collection of monographs (ca. 455) that exhaustively record the life of the population in the villages, towns and cities of Portugal. The treatment and organization of the collection of social, family and institutional monographs (1935-1972), in its different aspects, was aimed at studying, inventorying, preserving and disseminating its contents through the application of archival and library practices.
