Welcome to the CIHMeSS!

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to this space dedicated to the exploration and understanding of history and memory in Social Work. This portal is an invitation to reflect, learn and connect with the past and present, to explore the social work History, uncover documents and testimonies, and build bridges between different generations.

The Interpretation Center is open to all researchers, teaching students and professionals and hopes to provide an enriching and inspiring experience. As part of this community, you will have the opportunity to delve into the roots, challenges and achievements of this scientific area. We work to ensure that this portal is also an indispensable and unavoidable instrument of participation and consultation for the entire scientific community.

Information has an added potential value that will be transmitted to it by the direct action of its curator and by the information curation process. In this way, the information curator creates new contexts and added value. Where previously there were only documents with evidential value, there is now innovation and inspiration.

The period between 1935 and 1955 was a time of affirmation and diffusion of the teaching and practice of Social Work, both nationally and internationally. Gradually, the Institute of Social Work unveiled and integrated its teaching programmes and methodologies, opening up and defining a field of knowledge, at the same time as the first graduates took up positions in key institutions in Portuguese society
